چکیده

clinical examination, magnetic resonance imaging, cerebrospinal findings and positive aquaporin-4 antibodies, which are highly specific and sensitive for this condition. The serum autoantibody NMO-immunoglobulin G was reported as a biomarker of neuromyelitis optica in 2004. Viral prodrome often precedes the onset of disease, suggesting that infectious agents may cause or trigger NMO. Many diseases have been associated with NMO, including most viral infections, hypothyroidism, tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren’s syndrome and other connective tissue disorders. Serological and clinical evidence of B cell autoimmunity has been observed in a high proportion of patients with neuromyelitis optica. In the case presented here, the patient had a complex humoral immunity disorder with clinically confirmed neuromyelitis optica. To the best of our knowledge this is the first such report.

T cells targeting neuromyelitis optica autoantigen aquaporin-4 cause paralysis and visual system injury.

Aquaporin-4 (AQP4)-specific antibodies are instrumental in promoting central nervous system (CNS) tissue injury in neuromyelitis optica (NMO), yet evidence indicates that AQP4-specific T cells also have a pivotal role in NMO pathogenesis. Although considerable effort has been devoted to creation of animal models to study how AQP4-specific T cells and antibodies may cooperate in development of b...

Assessment the Possible Association Between Neuromyelitis Optica and Cytomegalovirus as a Provocative Factor

Background: Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO) is an autoimmune inflammation of the central nervous system in which autoantibodies are released against Aquaporin-4 (AQP-4), astrocytic water channels. The disease is characterized by transverse myelitis and optic neuritis. Viruses could be inflammatory agents in the brain. Due to such inflammatory reactions, autoantibodies would cross the blood brain bar...

Transverse myelitis associated with an itchy rash and hyperckemia: neuromyelitis optica associated with dermatitis herpetiformis.

IMPORTANCE Neuromyelitis optica is associated with severe neurodisability if not recognized and treated promptly. Several autoimmune disorders are associated with this condition and may vary in their presentation. It is essential that clinicians are aware of the uncommon presenting features of neuromyelitis optica and associated autoimmune conditions. OBSERVATIONS A 53-year-old woman presente...

Pregnancy Management in NMO: A Case of MOG- Antibody Positive NMO and Literature Review

Neuromyelitis optica (NMO) is a rare but severely disabling disease, affecting predominantly the optic nerves and spinal cord. Aquaporin-4 (AQP4 IgG) antibodies have been described as characteristic and pathogenic for the disease. Some NMO cases are AQP4 IgG negative, of which a fraction has antibodies against myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG). We report the pregnancy of a 42 year old E...

The Neuroepithelium Disruption Could Generate Autoantibodies against AQP4 and Cause Neuromyelitis Optica and Hydrocephalus

Neuromyelitis optica is an inflammatory disease characterized by neuritis and myelitis of the optic nerve. Its physiopathology is connected with the aquaporin-4 water channel, since antibodies against aquaporin-4 have been found in the cerebrospinal fluid and blood of neuromyelitis optica patients. The seropositivity for aquaporin-4 antibodies is used for the diagnosis of neuromyelitis optica o...
